Portable Samsung Galaxy S4 Video Rig
Samsung Galaxy S4 Video/Photo Rig
2 of the most important aspects of gadgets nowadays are effectivity and portability specially for hobbyists and enthusiasts. And practically speaking, we don't want to spend more if we can get the job done and also get the same results without purchasing expensive and bulky extra devices or equipment. Here's an idea that you may want to look into if you want a more stable video/photo capture using a device that most of us already have, our smartphones.
Materials Used:

  1. Portable Camera Grip
  2. DV Led Light
  3. Cellphone Clip with 1/4 screw mount
  4. Mini Tripod
  5. Smartphone
  6. Headset w/ mic for audio recording and playback (optional)

Foldable Camera Grip w/ Cellphone Clip and flexible mini tripod
I started off by unfolding the portable camera grip then I screwd in the cellphone clip and mini tripod in place. I completed the rig by  mounting the DV light via the built in hotshoe of the camera grip then finally added the Samsung Galaxy S4 with a connected headset.

It took me 2-3 minutes to complete the assembly and this is what it looks like. The video and photo capture is definitely better due to the handling stability provided by the camera grip. The DV led light also saves the power of the phone during shoots since it has its own power supply, a rechargeable lithium battery.
Here's the rig in action. There's a lot of other things that you can include in your own rig depending on where and how you're going to use it, such as...
  • Boom Microphones
  • Wide angle and Fish eye external lenses
  • Gadget powerbanks (for long video shoots)
Feel free to share your own smartphone video/photo rigs. Your comments are highly welcome and appreciated. Thanks!
